Sultanate of Oman Bursary

The Sultanate of Oman Bursary Scheme is available to young people aged between 15 and 25 years who are financially disadvantaged, regardless of background, nationality, creed, physical ability or sailing experience. The Scheme helps to fund young people from around the world to benefit from the life-changing experience gained from participation in races and regattas organised by Sail Training International. A maximum of €500 is awarded to each selected trainee.

The Scheme was trialled at The Tall Ships Races 2011 when 25 trainees from seven countries received bursaries.

The Royal Navy of Oman has funded the Sultanate of Oman Bursary Scheme every year since, and in 2015, the Scheme’s fifth year, 104 young people from 24 countries received funds from this Bursary. There were exactly equal numbers of male and female recipients.

The Scheme gives financial support to disadvantaged and disabled young people from around the world to allow them to benefit from the sail training experience at a Sail Training International event. These events aim to foster international friendship and support the development of young people.

Applications for 2017 will be open from December 2016.
