In 2017 Tall Ships Australia and New Zealand presented a program of seminars and workshops on Sunday 12 February 2017, in Hobart, during the Australian Wooden Boat Festival. Seminars and workshops were hosted by Tall Ships Australia and New Zealand at no cost to attendees, and proved popular amongst crew and alumni attending the Festival.

Speakers drew on a range of expertise and included:

  • LCDR Gavin Dawe OAM RAN, Commanding Officer STS Young Endeavour
“Saling the World – Cape Horn, the Atlantic and the North Sea”
  • Murray Henstock, Sail Training International Trustee
“Sail Training: Linking it to education, research and exploration of its effects.”
  • Malcolm Riley, Tall Ships Races Official
    “Racing in the Northern Hemisphere”

Ten tall ships from Tasmania, New South Wales, Victoria, and the United Kingdom attended the Festival, inviting visitors to step aboard in port, join a day sails on the Derwent River, or become part of the crew for longer voyages to and from Hobart.
